North Wales Crusaders head coach Anthony Murray believes his side can take inspiration from some of their results earlier on this season as they travel to Newcastle Thunder on Sunday.

Murray’s men need to beat Newcastle at Kingston Park to keep their hunt for a League 1 play-off place alive.

After picking up victories at the likes of top-of-the-table Whitehaven and Doncaster in 2019, Murray is hopeful his side will give a good account of themselves against Thunder.

“It’s going to be a big challenge as Newcastle are one of the best sides we’ve faced this year,” he said.

“If we look after our own results, we can still get into the top six, but I’ve just told the players to go out there and enjoy it.

“The fact that we’ve managed to get ourselves into this position is testament to how hard the players have worked.

“The pressure is probably on Newcastle a bit as they’ll want to finish as high up the table as possible.

“The lads can take confidence from the last two wins, but they can also take confidence from some of the results we’ve already picked up so far this season.

“We’re the only team who have beaten Whitehaven on their own turf this year and we’ve shown throughout the season that we’re able to compete with the top sides.

“We’ve picked up some good results at Newcastle over the last couple of years so hopefully the lads will put in another decent display this weekend.”
