North Wales Crusaders have signed St Helens forward Callum Hazzard on an initial one-month loan.
The 20-year-old, who joined Saints’ scholarship programme when he was 14, was promoted to the first-team during the off-season.
Not only is Hazzard a big presence in the forward pack, but he is also skilful with the ball in hand and can kick goals.
Following the first month of his loan, Crusaders will have the option to extend the contract and it will run month-by-month from there.
North Wales head coach Anthony Murray said: “I’m really pleased with this signing because we needed to get some more middle men in.
“I know St Helens rate him very highly and he’s a young man who wants an opportunity at senior level.
“We can do that at Crusaders and you’ve only got to look at the likes of Joe Lyons and Olly Ashall-Bott. They were with us last year and now they’re in and around the first-team at Widnes.
“St Helens have included Callum in their first-team squad so that shows he’s well thought of.
“He’ll have the opportunity to test himself against men week in, week out and I’m excited to see what he can do with us.”
