North Wales Crusaders head coach Anthony Murray has named Karl Ashall and Tommy Johnson as joint captains for the 2020 campaign.

After missing the entire 2019 season through injury, Johnson has returned to action and ten conversions out of a possible 11 at Rochdale Mayfield last weekend took his club-record tallies to 552 goals and 1,332 points.

Ashall, boasting plenty of experience at League 1 level and higher, is currently in his second spell with the club, racking up 79 appearances to date.

On his two skippers for 2020, Murray said: “Both players have been with the club for large parts of our history.

“They’ve been key to helping us build up a competitive squad again.

“Tommy obviously missed all of last season, but I’m expecting him to play the majority of games this year and he’ll be an important player for us.

“He’s been with the club since day one and holds all kinds of records.

“Karl is very vocal out on the pitch and brings some great leadership qualities with his game.

“He’s currently awaiting an operation so Tommy will definitely be wearing the captain’s armband at the start of the season.”

North Wales take on Doncaster in their League 1 opener at Queensway Stadium this Sunday (February 16).

Entry is priced at just £12 for adults and £10 concessions, with U16s completely free of charge.
