Brad Calland has joined North Wales Crusaders permanently for the 2021 campaign after a successful trial period at the club.
The halfback was named in Anthony Murray’s 19-man squad for Crusaders’ pre-season opener at Hunslet last weekend and has been training with the Welshmen for a couple of weeks.
Calland, who had another trial period at Championship club Bradford Bulls during pre-season, has previously been part of the academy system at Widnes Vikings.
He said: “It’s a good club and I’m excited for the future.
“I want to be playing every week and make sure I stay in the team.
“We need to strive to be the very best we can. We’ve got a great work ethic in the team and we need to aim to finish as high as we can in the table.”
On Crusaders’ friendly at Hunslet, Calland said: “There are always areas to improve, but I thought we played quite well.
“Muzza wanted to take 19 and they went with quite a few more players than us. I thought we looked really fit given most of the lads hadn’t played for 13 months.”
North Wales head coach Anthony Murray added: “Brad’s done well during his trial with us so we’ve decided to offer him a permanent deal.
“He’s a young lad who has been in some good systems and will provide us with further options in the halves.”
