North Wales Crusaders chief executive Andy Moulsdale has welcomed the news that rugby league is one of just seven sports in Wales to have been offered a share of the Welsh government’s £17.7 million funding package to help spectator sports severely impacted by the pandemic.
Rugby league has been offered £200,000 to assist Crusaders and fellow League 1 club West Wales Raiders, plus the Welsh domestic clubs and international sides that have lost gate receipts in 2020 due to the lack of matches. The funding will be based on income generated from gate receipts in 2019.
The revenue funding package will be allocated to Wales Rugby League directly from the Welsh government.
Crusaders CEO Moulsdale: “We welcome the news of support from the Welsh government and Wales Rugby League.
“The last ten months have been challenging for everyone and our club is no different.
“As we haven’t had access to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport money given to the RFL, this is a huge help to the club and one we’re greatly appreciative of the Welsh government for.
“I think it’s a really positive step that also shows the commitment of Wales Rugby League and their CEO Gareth Kear, who has been lobbying on our behalf to help both the professional and community game in Wales.”
