Wrexham Crusaders, the new Wales Rugby League (WRL) community club supported by North Wales Crusaders, have appointed Lee Thomas as head coach of their junior section.
Thomas will take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the team, following in the distinguished footsteps of Allen Jones, who is stepping down but will still be involved on an advisory basis.
On his appointment, Thomas said: “I’m very excited to become the new head coach of Wrexham Crusaders’ junior section.
“Allen Jones has left big shoes to fill, but it’s my intention to continue his good work with this top-quality group of youngsters.
“My ambition as head coach is to produce as many players as possible to go on and achieve representative honours for both North Wales and Wales internationally.
“Above all, I want to make sure that every participant thoroughly enjoys their rugby league experience.”
Wrexham Crusaders chairman Conrad Anderson added: “I’m extremely pleased to appoint Lee Thomas as head coach of Wrexham Crusaders’ junior section.
“He’s a product of the WRL pathway as a player, representing North Wales Origin, and has his own personal ambitions to play for Wales. He’s also part of the WRL development strategy as both a player and coach.
“His enthusiasm shines through and he buys in to what we’re trying to achieve.”
WRL patron Richard Greenwood commented: “This initiative reflects the growing momentum of rugby league in North Wales and will enhance the long-term development of the sport for the benefit of the region’s youngsters. I’d like to congratulate everyone involved with Wrexham Crusaders.”
