Coach’s player of the season Warren Thompson has extended his stay at North Wales Crusaders, penning a new deal ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Having come through the ranks at Super League club St Helens and spent the best part of four years at Rochdale Hornets, 28-year-old Thompson boasts plenty of experience.

The forward linked up with Crusaders midway through 2017, featuring regularly in the second-half of the season.

Although Thompson’s 2018 campaign was disrupted by injuries from time to time, he hit the ground running last term and was the only North Wales player to feature in every game.

His consistent run of strong performances in the forward pack was recognised as he was awarded coach’s player of the season.

Crusaders head coach Anthony Murray said: “I’m delighted Woz has signed a new deal for 2020.

“He was outstanding in 2019 and that’s the reason myself and the rest of coaching staff picked him as our player of the season.

“He was never out of the team and did a lot of the hard work that often goes unnoticed.

“We drew up a list before last season finished with the people we wanted to keep and Woz was a key player we needed to keep hold of.

“Our 2020 squad is coming together nicely now as we aim to build on the positive steps we took in 2019.”
