North Wales Crusaders A will get their 2019 campaign underway when they face Rochdale at Deeside Leisure Centre at 2.30pm tomorrow.

They have been given a boost ahead of the new season as Adam Turner has been appointed as Mike Newton’s new assistant coach.

Turner started coaching rugby league at Chester Gladiators with well-known local junior coach Allen Jones, before helping out with Warrington Wolves’ juniors.

He then returned to the Gladiators and was appointed head coach of the first-team in 2016, making it on the shortlist for coach of the year in that particular season.

Turner said on his appointment: “I just want to support Mike as head coach and develop some of the less experienced lads.

“It’s important we break down the game and get all of the basics right.

“I’ve only spent a couple of weeks with the lads, but there seems to be bags of potential in the squad.

“I don’t see why we can’t get some success and achieve promotion either this year or next.”

Crusaders A’s 19-man squad for the clash with Rochdale is as follows: Josh White, Alife Matthias, Will Mills, Finlay Swift, Damian Goss, Dylan Rowe, Ryan Turner, Billy Forrester, Ryan Griffiths, Andrew Higgins, Paul Welch, Tim Neale, Geraint Jones, Joe Daly, Sam Hardcastle, Callum Leonard, Dylan Mairs-Lee, Rob Sansom, Ryan Trantum.

The full address for the match is: Deeside Leisure Centre, Chester Road, Queensferry, Deeside, CH5 1SA.
